UWC have a golden opportunity to win their maiden Varsity Football women’s title when they take on Tuks at Tuks Stadium on Monday.

This will be UWC’s fifth appearance in a Varsity Women’s Football final and Tuks’ second, with neither team having lifted the trophy before. And 04 Oct 2021 Monday make a remunerable history, the match kicked off at 17:00 and it was broadcast live on SuperSport Variety 4 (channel 209). UWC entered the final as the overwhelming favorite to win their first title, having scored 12 goals in four games, four of which came in their semifinal victory over Wits. Tuks, who had beaten UJ 2-1 in their semi-final, did have home field advantage. Despite being defeated in the final, Khanya Xesi was awarded the Golden Boot for the tournament. Khanya Xesi of UWC provided a fantastic assist to Tiffany Kortjie in the eighth minute, but she was unable to convert the opportunity.

The Tuks women's football team lost against UWC in the 2021-final, according to the Varsity Women's Football tournament statistics, but this is not necessarily an accurate reflection of what happened on the field. Guts and on-field bravery can't be measured in numbers. It's a heartfelt message. And the Tuks players had plenty of it. As did the players from the UWC.

Both teams fought till last minute. That's why there was still no score after 70 minutes. In a penalty shootout, UWC won 4-3. For UWC, winning the Varsity title for the first time was a long time in coming. They competed in the final for the fifth time last night. Tuks' final appearance was only his second. UWC took their time preparing and camped in the Tuks' half. Despite having more set-pieces, they failed to capitalize on them and did not put enough pressure on Tuks goalkeeper Mapaseka Mpuru. even though UWC had lost four of the previous five women’s finals, including a heart-breaking penalty shootout to TUT in 2019, but this time luck was on their side after the 90-minute stalemate.

Xesi, the tournament's leading scorer with five goals, she was very frustrated as she was tightly marked by the Tuks’ defence and she couldn’t get a shot on goal. As it happened, UWC had the ball in the back of the net twice. First Kortjie thought she had scored the first goal in the 61st minute with a tap-in only to see the flag raisedXesi then celebrated a late winner for UWC, but her goal was also ruled offside and the game went to penalties.

The TuksSport Director & CEO of hpc, Steven Ball, was full of praise for the Tuks performance. He said that he is so super proud, he never seen tusk ladies playing football like this since 2013 Since 2013. For me, the biggest thing is the character they showed. They never gave up.  The players were fit and fast. That was all you wanted. i am so proud of myself and my team it was not easy but here we are , we have won the 2021 varsity football cup against Tusk a very strong team in the filed.
